MommiesFirst May 2013 Review - 4 month box

I finally got my first MommiesFirst box! MommiesFirst is a subscription box company based in Toronto, Canada (luckily for USA mamas, they ship here too!). They aim to serve the mom-to-be and the new mom, with boxes for each month of pregnancy and each month of the first year of baby's life. I wish I had known about them while I was pregnant, but I'm still happy to find them now. MommiesFirst boxes cost CA$30.00 (US$29.19) per month.

We received the "Food 1.0 - Introducing Solids" box which targets the milestone of baby's first solids. Here is a look at our box:

The blue cards on the bottom right of the picture contain information about each item included and are held together with a diaper pin, which I thought was precious! MommiesFirst also included a personalized, hand addressed note with information about Froggy's next stage at four months. Those little things added a really nice touch to the box.

This is a fresh food feeder from Munchkin. I was really excited to see this in our box, because it's something we were already planning on purchasing. Froggy started teething last week, and a mommy friend advised us to try giving him one of these with a frozen breastmilk cube inside to teethe on. Now we don't have to go out and buy one! The two packs of these feeders on Amazon.com retail for $6.99, so I would place the value of this item at $3.50.

Even though Froggy hasn't started solids yet, he likes to "chew" on his Oogaa spoons when his gums are bothering him. I'm hoping these spoons will be winners for the same purpose. I gave him one to try out, but he doesn't seem to have quite mastered the concept. Oh well! The six pack of soft tip infant spoons from Munchkin retails on Amazon.com for $4.99.

I'm a little bit obsessive about cleaning anything that goes in Froggy's mouth. I've honestly been dreading moving on to sippy cups, because the lids look impossible to get fully clean. This cleaning set will be perfect for me. The OXO tot cleaning set for straw and sippy cups retails for $4.99 on Amazon.com.

This is a stage one organic pear pouch from Happy Baby organic baby food. We plan on making most of Froggy's food ourselves, but I'm still excited to try this once Froggy is a little older. It doesn't expire until September, which is nice. I think it would be great to have a few of these in the house to just toss in the diaper bag if we're in a hurry. Amazon.com sells these pouches in sixteen packs for $17.54, which works out to about $1.10 a pouch.

This DVD is called "Yummy in my Tummy - Healthy Eating Habits for Life" and is all about starting solids. It looks like a very informative resource, but I can't imagine being able to find the time to sit down and watch it. The DVD retails for CA$16.99 (US$16.55) on Amazon.Ca.

The total value of our box was $31.13. Overall, I felt like this was a really cute box. They hit the nail on the head with their theme choice, and it was one of the best executed themes that I've seen from any of our boxes. I loved the personal touches, and I could definitely feel that a lot of thought went into the box. Most of the items in the box were perfect for us. I was, however, disappointed that so much of the box's value came from the DVD, and I let the company know via their Facebook page. Within an hour, I received an email from the CEO of MommiesFirst, Lorena. She offered a further explanation for the product choices, her sincere apologies that I didn't love my box, and a full refund if I wanted (I declined). That response told me that I'm dealing with a company with integrity. First and foremost, they care about the customer experience, and that's the kind of company I want to do business with. I'm already looking forward to next month. 1. I am with you 100% about their care and customer service. Most box companies I have dealt with thus far have terrible customer service and don't care about doing whatever it takes to make a happy customer. Lorena does not fit this mold! By the way I am a fellow blogger doing ub. box reviews. I did a review today of the MommiesFirst 9 month old box. Hoping you'll come over to my blog and follow me/ I will do the same for your blog :). Here is my blog ( I didn't copy the link for MommiesFirst in case you don't want a spoiler ;) ) http://crazy4subscriptionboxes.wordpress.com/
